Human resource management in international joint ventures in China

Article Abstract:

International equity-joint ventures have become a popular strategy among western companies who want to do business in China. Western multinational corporations (MNC) doing business in China have realized a wide range of opportunities in the country. However, several challenges associated with human resources management (HRM) practices faced MNCs. They implemented China-specific HR systems that emphasized their commitment to long term development in the country. A number of them have also established training facilities that conducts various HR activities, such as head-hunting, consultation and management training. These developments have resulted in a surge in the number of international professional companies setting up offices in China.

Techniques for managing corporate organizational changes are analyzed, focusing on the need to maintain employee morale. Methods discussed include alleviating employees' concerns, keeping employees updated regarding the corporate change timeline, and involving employees in the change process.
