Identity Crisis

Article Abstract:

Deregulation of the banking industry has made it even more difficult for minority banks to compete. Minority banks must now grapple with big money-center banks and offer comparable interest rates and services. The banks originally wanted to extend services to their particular constituencies. Demand for such services has diminished since the 1970s, once Congress passed legislation prohibiting racial or sexual discrimination in lending. Many minority banks have since folded or sustained losses. Many are now changing their strategies to become community banks to encompass all of the population and offering extensive services. Management also must strive to control costs.

National insurance contributions: anomalities and reforms

Article Abstract:

National Insurance Contributions in the UK should be more closely integrated with the inland revenue's income tax. This would enable cost savings, because proceedures could be dealt within the same department and inspection teams could merge. The Treasury is against incorporating it into income tax as people are more willing to pay for contributions which are used for a specific cause, called hypothecated expenditure.
