Managing an FMS project: a case study

Article Abstract:

A flexible manufacturing system (FMS) helps in meeting global market demand for shorter production time, product variety and customerization. The system integrates technology, production processes and human resources. Based on the experience of Taiwan's Sun Co., the FMS implementation may be divided into three stages. Stage 1, planning and design, included strategy development and data base vendor selection; stage 2, the installation of the system, was the integration of software and hardware; and stage 3, the evaluative stage, began after the trial run and continued until the system was stable.

Virtual project management: tools and the trade

Article Abstract:

The road-mapping process is a communication and planning tool that can be used by project management organizations in virtual project management. The process works by considering planning and communication as an emerging process that must be guided but not controlled. Because of its participatory and ad hoc nature, road-mapping process encourages participants to take full responsibility for strategy development. Utilization of the process entails the practice of shared power so as to attain its full effect on the value-creating parts of the organization.
