Managing integration and coordination in cross-functional teams: an international study of Concurrent engineering product development

Article Abstract:

Concurrent engineering (CE), a system which enables cross-functional product development, is a concept brought about by rapid technological advancement and globalization of industries. Most CE teams are composed of technical professionals of different nationalities and, consequently, integration and coordination are the key concepts to effective CE functioning. Job rotation is an effective way of lessening cultural tensions and overcoming language barriers, while coordination enables accurate transmission of information to the people concerned.
