Massive expansion causes monster headaches

Article Abstract:

Australian Aluminium Finishing expanded suddenly from an $8 million (Australian) business to a %40 million one in the late 1990s when HSP acquired Villante Industries. The new company faced many difficulties, including the coordination of activities in three separate states and the development of new markets. Furthermore, the sites in Melbourne and Sydney had very different management styles and suffered from acute rivalry.

Photo library solves its image problem

Article Abstract:

A Sydney photo lab technician turned entrepreneur brought International Photographic Library out of the doldrums by forging ties with advertising and design studio clients. Renate Hoffmann purchased the library with her family's help, and began to pursue new business. Now 75% of the library business is from advertisers. The library has broadened its holdings to include lifestyle, business, and people images.

Courier rails against Australia Post's 'unfair monopoly' advantages

Pack and Send Systems Managing Director Michael Paul complains that Australia Post enjoys unfair advantages due to its monopoly over the domestic letter market that severe constrict the competitiveness of his courier service. Paul characterizes Australia Post 's domestic letter operation as a $1.5 billion market, 60% of which is business-related and should be open to free competition.
