Micron Electronics maps drive for recognition

Article Abstract:

Micron Electronics Inc. is introducing a new sales and marketing strategy designed to put Micron on the map and jump start stagnant revenue. Micron is the 10th largest personal-computer maker in the U.S., but a recent survey shows only one in 10 PC business users realizes that Micron makes PCs. Micron's advertising campaign will target the U.S. market of mid-size businesses. The campaign is designed to appeal to the underdog mentality of these firms. Micron plans to triple its sales force, segment customers so the biggest get more attention and amass a huge database of potential new customers.

Packard Bell chief resigns abruptly, apparently in rift

Article Abstract:

Beny Alagem announced his resignation as the chairman, president, and CEO of Packard Bell NEC Inc. apparently as a result of "fundamental differences" he had with two company partners. Mr. Alagem helped make Packard Bell into a giant in the home-computer business. He did not discuss the differences he had with NEC Corp. and Groupe Bull. Analysts believe that Mr. Alagem was being pressured by NEC to improve Packard Bell's sluggish performance.
