Sundstrand to be bought for $4 billion

Article Abstract:

Currently valued at over $3 billion, Illinois-based Sundstrand Corp. is expected to be purchased by United Technologies Corp. United is a Connecticut-based manufacturer of diverse products which will expand its Pratt & Whitney aircraft engine business with the acquisition and Sundstrand clients like Boeing and Airbus Industrie. The offer price is said to about $4 billion. United has put its automotive parts business up for sale and that is expected to sell for $2 billion to $3 billion.

New Boeing CFO's assignment: signal a turnaround

Article Abstract:

Boeing's CFO, Deborah Hopkins, who started in December 1998, was astounded to learn that she couldn't return top executives to the basics of inventory turnover and return on net assets. They never understood the basic principles of profitability in the first place. The 44-year-old recruited from General Motors has a large task ahead; stockholders and Wall St. analysts won't be convinced by promises any longer.

Lockheed's Northrop purchase is dealt legal blow over access to documents

Article Abstract:

Lockheed Martin Corp.'s planned acquisition of Northrop Grumman Corp. has been hindered by a federal judge. The companies are continuing to attempt to restructure the transaction to receive government approval. The Justice Department and the Defense Department are exploring the ideas advanced by the companies, which include spinning off of some large part of the merged companies.
