Network ad sales rise, but local stations see slowdown

Article Abstract:

Despite the record year for television networks' sales of advertising time for the current TV season, local stations are not having the same rise in sales. A number of broadcasting companies are expected to report lower earnings for 1999 due to slower sales of local-television time, according to estimates by Wall Street analysts. Analysts blame the slump to increasing competition from cable, and the lack of midterm political advertising.
