Out of the shadow of Uncle Rupert

Rupert Murdoch has 14 nieces and nephews, the offspring of his sisters, from 29 to 47 years of age. None of them display Rupert's talent for business but several have distinct Murdoch family talents. Matt and Paddy Handbury are developing business empires. The Kantor children display a love of the arts as Dame Elisabeth, Rupert's mother, did. The Calvert-Jones sons are developing small businesses.

TV magnate aims low and gets a high score: former politician Izzy Asper has made a fortune as a bargain-basement broadcaster

Israel Asper, former Canadian Government politician, owns a 56% interest in CanWest Global Communications and focuses on providing U.S. television hits to viewers in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Asper's strategy for CanWest is to avoid high-bid programming, such as sports events. CanWest also provides situation comedies, soap operas and dramas.
