Perceptions on partnering in the public sector

Article Abstract:

A study to determine the field personnel's appraisal of the partnering program of the US Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District is presented. Results show positive feedback from both contractor and government employees in terms of improved job coordination, conflict resolutionand quality control. Partnering illustrates how open communication lines help maintain a collaborative effort and urges participants to do their jobs better.However, public partnering works better with negotiated contracts.

Project partnering

Article Abstract:

Project partnering is gaining acceptance among project managers in favor of the old adversarial approach to business. It makes better business practice because parties commit themselves to trust, respect, quality and collaboration. The process involves careful partner selection and team building, constant efforts to maintain the cooperative spirit and professionalism as well as dedication of the partners in order to achieve the project goals.

Barriers to project partnering: report from the firing line

Article Abstract:

Partnering in construction projects is often opposed. Construction managers report that resistance to partnering is due to mistrust and interpersonal barriers to cooperation, the type of project and wrong perceptions about partnering. Construction managers also cite differences in knowledge and skill and lack of commitment to partnering as two of the major barriers to successful partnering.
