Peter Clemenger, gentleman and fierce competitor, goes out on a high note

After 53 years of experience in advertising and receiving a Business Review Weekly award in recognition of that experience, Peter Clemenger will retire as chairman of Clemenger BBDO. Clemenger, who turns 70 in November, 1997, has had a reputation for toughness in the industry. Business Review Weekly also gave awards to Ron Mather for best ad agency creative director and M&C Saatchi for hottest ad agency.

Agency finds it's lonely in the middle

Box Emery and Partners, a mid-sized Australian advertising agency, expects to see its revenue tick up slightly in 1997-98 despite growing competition. Box Emery landed several high-profile accounts, kept its remuneration income steady and plans to profit from incentive-based deals. The company predicts a revenue increase to $5.9 million from $5.6 million in 1996-97.

Another ad agency shoots for the top

US-owned TBWA wants to be one of the top five advertising agencies in Australia by 2003. The company's agencies in Australia rank 15th in 1998 and the company will need to double revenue to reach its goal. TBWA had earnings of approximately $18 million Australian on billings of $165 million Australian in its most recent annual financial statement.
