Prolonged Liquidation

Article Abstract:

A concept called 'Prolonged Liquidation' can be used to signal a major bottom in the stock market. The method works by counting how many days each week the Standard & Poor's 500 stock composite index closed up. Then count how many days it closed down. If there is any day the average is exactly unchanged, give that day the sign of the day before. Ignore the size of the rise and fall, and holidays. At the end of each week, go back over the previous fourteen weeks of data. Count how many days up and how many down over the fourteen weeks. If there are at least seventeen more down days than up days, you have an important buy signal. The individual investor can fine tune his timing from that point. Several tables provide graphic information.
