PwC makes a serious assault on the law

Article Abstract:

Australia's largest accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P. (PwC) will merge with the country's 12th largest legal firm Dunhill Madden Butler in December 1999 to form PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal. In its Australian operations, PwC has an annual turnover of around $800 million. Dunhill Madden Butler has an annual revenue of $26 million. The merger will create a separate entity to maintain a strong law-services culture. No money is involved in the merger.

Alliance hints at law-firm invasion

Article Abstract:

The merger of Australia's Norton Smith and Co. and New York-based Coudert Brothers will bring the presence of a multinational law firm to Australia. No money changed hands between the two firms, and Coudert Brothers stressed that the alliance is a partnership and not a takeover. The alliance will allow the combined law firm to practice international, as well as domestic, law.

The return of Princess Lawyer: faced with strong competition, law firms are bringing back their marketing 'princesses'

Article Abstract:

The major Australian law firms are hiring marketing executives, primarily women, to sell their organizations. The organizations had this type of marketing structure before the mid-1990s. The return to this marketing style is to better client-firm relationships because it is much easier to keep a client than to get a new one.
