Quickturn Design agrees to be acquired by Cadence in $253 million stock deal

Article Abstract:

Quickturn Design Systems Inc. is very pleased that it is to be acquired by nearby Cadence Design Systems Inc. The two San Jose firms make a better combination than Quickturn and Cadence rival Mentor Graphics would have. Mentor started showing interest in Quickturn in August 1998, but it is felt that many Quickturn employees would have been let go because of duplication. Cadence, a chip-design software maker, will buy Quickturn, maker of hardware systems that verify chip designs, for $253 million in stock.
