Russia to open biological-research sites

Article Abstract:

Russia will allow US and UK inspection of its biological research facilities to verify the 1972 treaty against germ warfare weapons. There have been rumors that the Soviet Union had not stopped biological weapons research. A 1979 outbreak of anthrax in the USSR was revealed in 1992 to have been caused by secret experiments.

U.S., Russia agree to decrease nuclear warheads; powers quarrel over land-based missiles

Article Abstract:

Pre-summit discussions between the US and Russia resulted in a tentative agreement to reduce strategic warheads held by each country to 4,700, about 3,800 less than under previous agreements. US demands that Russia reduce land-based missiles were resisted.

U.S., Russia move to speed disarmament

Article Abstract:

The Russian Federation and Secretary of State James Baker met in Feb 1992 to discuss nuclear disarmament. The US, Russia and Germany plan to establish an international science center for former Soviet nuclear scientists.
