Shale twins make a new run for black gold

Article Abstract:

Australia's Southern Pacific Petroleum and Central Pacific Minerals N.L. are rated as speculative stock buys, as their joint venture Suncor Energy Inc. expects by year-end 2000 to have shale oil into commercial production. Suncor expects to produce 4500 barrels a day in 2000 and an additional 15,000 b/d by 2003. Salomon Smith Barney Holdings Inc. expects share targets of $10 in 2000 for Southern Pacific and even higher prices for Central Pacific.

Europe might be the next boom market

Article Abstract:

Many Australian investors feel that Europe may become the most lucrative region for investment. Stockmarkets in Europe rose by double digits between July 1997 and July 1998. Although traditional social values will probably prevent downsizing, many companies in Europe are expanding through mergers and acquisitions. Furthermore, the advent of the single European currency may well stabilize and improve European economy.
