Sprint is laying out details of plan to revamp network

Article Abstract:

A plan to restructure its communications network to provide integrated data and video information at high speeds has been outlined by the Sprint Corp. Deals have been made by Sprint, the country's third-largest long-distance telephone company, to use the fiber optic networks of Ameritech, SBC Communications, GTE and BellSouth. Sprint hopes to provide integrated network access services to big businesses later in the year while it also aims to provide the service for between 30 to 35 million households out of the country's estimated 100 million households.

Sprint in plan to enter local phone market

Article Abstract:

Sprint Corporation is planning to reveal its strategy for competing in local communications markets. Sprint's strategy entails an ambitious goal to provide rapid cyberspace access. The strategy follows the company's avoidance of local telephone markets. Sprint has used the time to come up with new ideas to use in the ongoing battle between long-distance and local phone companies. Sprint is believed to be planning to cooperate with five Bell local companies. The company has no plans to confront them directly.

Another giant seeks to deflect cable TV criticism

Article Abstract:

AT&T is planning to give Internet access providers access to its cable TV systems. Under harsh criticism, AT&T must decide how a step like this one could benefit the corporation and the free-enterprise marketplace at the same time. Is there such a balance? Due to a contract with Excite@Home Corp., At&T cannot even make a move on this decision until the contract is up in a couple of years.
