Strategic information systems planning: planning system dimensions, internal coalignment, and implications for planning effectiveness

Article Abstract:

Strategic information systems planning (SISP) may be efficiently carried out by evaluating activities in the context of behavior, agendas or process dimensions. By adopting frameworks necessary in characterizing comprehensiveness, focus and formulation, firms may be able to increase rationality, while inducing increased participation and enhanced consistency. Improving the planning cycles of SISP activities has also been proven instrumental in enhancing planning effectiveness.

Decisions to outsource information systems functions: testing a strategy-theoretic discrepancy model

Article Abstract:

The outsourcing of information systems (IS) functions by companies is studied. Results show that the popularity of outsourcing is fueled by the efforts of IS departments to fulfill their traditional role of providing high quality information and support service. Outsourcing becomes an option when performance declines due to the increased difficulty of maintaining IS resources and the rising levels of user expectations. A discrepancy model of IS outsourcing is also developed.
