Struggling to spell r-e-l-i-e-f; though promising, sales of migraine drugs face hurdles

Article Abstract:

Migraine headaches are not sinus headaches and therefore, suffering for days, taking only over-the-counter pain relievers is not necessary. Glaxo Wellcome has two products, comprising about 86% of the market, that treat the special needs of the migraine sufferer. Zeneca Pharmaceuticals and Merck & Co. also have products. Pfizer will come out with one in 1999. The drug that works the fastest and most effectively on a migraine is called a triptan. Triptan sales grew 72% in 1996 but a large increase in sales is not expected in 1999.
