Summit declares century of the Americas

Article Abstract:

Economic and political issues concerning countries bound by the North American Free Trade Agreement, and all Western Hemisphere countries seeking better international trade arrangements are examined. Topics include a 3-day summit in Quebec City among 34 Western Hemisphere nations, and plans to create a Free Trade Area of the Americas by 2005; US Pres George W. Bush's address to the summit, in which he stated he expects to have fast track trade negotiating authority by the end of 2001; disagreements in the business sector over Western Hemisphere free trade; and a visit to Mexico by US Senator Jesse Helms.
