The birth of a new industry: casinos in the coastal Mississippi

Article Abstract:

A model was developed to determine the maturity point of the casino industry in Harrison County, MS. The model takes into account the casinos' impact on tourism, construction and other economic indicators. The results show that the casino industry reached maturity two years after it opened. The potential effects of the reductions in excess profits are discussed.

A model was developed to trace forecast errors in earnings per share to sales, pretax operating margins and other forecast components. The model is proposed as a method to reduce forecast errors in earnings per share of common stocks. The use of the model is demonstrated using data from the steel industry.
