The business value of quality management systems certification. Evidence from Australia and New Zealand

Article Abstract:

The goal of International Quality Standards (ISO) 9000 certification, one of the world's most popular quality assurance systems, is to provide confidence in customers that their supplies have management processes that deliver consistency to more or less assure product quality. The relationship between the certification and organizational performance in various conditions was tested in various manufacturing firms in New Zealand and Australia. Results show that ISO 9000 does not have a significant positive relationship with organizational performance, by itself, or in the presence and absence of a total quality management (TQM) environment. In addition, both poor and good manufactures have adopted the ISO 9000 certification in roughly equal; proportions, and that the adoption has not resulted in significant effects.
