Tasmania, which was the worst performing state by almost every economic indicator for decades, is back on the economic map. The economic mantra of Tasmania is "diversification" with the stable government, responsible for fiscal policy, energy infrastructure projects and a tourism boom, which are promising signs that the economy is finally on the mend.

The $17-a-week wage rise awarded to about 1.7 million workers in the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) safety net review of wages was a great event. The IRC is becoming increasingly relaxed about the economic effect of substantial increases to the minimum wage, which is worrying the employers.
