The content of the psychological contract

Article Abstract:

It is possible to use the critical incident technique to analyze the perceived obligations of employers and employees in the employment relationship. There seems to be considerable agreement about the main elements of the psychological contract between employes and employees. Overall, both sides have very traditional views of work values, with both employers and employees believing, for example, that the employee should be honest and do a good job. However, there are differing views between employers and employees about the relative importance of the main elements of their psychological contract.

The career attitudes and intentions of managers in the finance sector

Article Abstract:

Recent research has investigated the career attitudes and intentions of middle managers at a number of UK companies operating in the finance sector. There were found to be clear links between career atittudes and intentions and the length of time a manager had spent in a particular organisation or in his or her present position. Finance sector managers tend not to expect continued promotion any more, but would welcome help from their companies in developing new skills which would help them to better meet the demands of their work.

Re-aligning the stakeholders in management research: lessons from industrial, work and organizational psychology

Article Abstract:

A four-fold taxonomy of the varieties of managerial knowledge is presented. It is argued that the relevance gap in management research will only be bridged by work that is rigorous and focused on issues of concern to a wide range of stakeholders.
