The empirical assessment of construct validity

Article Abstract:

Construct validity is of key importance if theory-driven empirical research in operations management is to succeed. Construct validity enables the researcher to quantify the deviation of a construct or model from the intended subject of study, allowing the results to be free of measurement errors that will bias the assessment of the subject. Confirmatory factor analysis is a better tool to use in construct validity evaluation since the method contains inferential statistics that allow for hypothesis testing in the unidimensionality of measures.

A citation index based on journals previously chosen as important to OM is used. These journals include Management Science (MS), Journal of Operations Management and Decision Sciences (DS). Total citations, citations per words and article published are used to rank the journals. Results reveal that journals of importance to OM, in descending order, are MS, DS and Operations Research.
