The metaconversation: The recursive property of language as a key to organizing

Article Abstract:

The implication of the recursivity of language that are largely overlooked in the literature that explores the role of language in organizing is argued. The manner in which the metaconversation is constituted is illustrated by exploiting a narrative interpretation of sensemaking in language, thus showing the ways in which it admits and reconstructs the local conversations of the organization into an encompassing conversation.

A rhetorical theory of diffusion

Article Abstract:

Rhetorical theory that provides a unique analytical framework for the study of organizational issues is used to reconceptualization the diffusion of managerial practices. Examining diffusion from a rhetorical perspective enables the decoupling of diffusion from institutionalization thus demonstrating that highly adopted practices are not necessarily highly institutionalized.

When Mickey loses face: Recontextualization, semantic fit, and the semiotics of foreignness

Article Abstract:

The notion of semantic fit as a necessary complement to strategic fit is developed by using semiotics, which is a study of how language systems convey meaning and the Walt Disney Company's experience in internationalization. A conceptual model of recontextualization, the process by which firm assets take on new meanings in distinct cultural environments is formalized.
