The relationship between performance as a leader and emotional intelligence, intellectual and managerial competences

Article Abstract:

The findings of the first stage of the Scottish Police Service Leadership Study are presented. The study focuses on the relationship between leadership style, emotional intelligence, context, and performance as a leader within the police service in Scotland. The results support the proposition that there is a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and performance as a leader in policing.

The relationship between Emotional Intelligence, Leadership and Job Performance of Officers and Ratings within the Royal Navy is explored. The three elements of the new Leadership Dimensions Questionnaire (LDQ), Intellectual ('IQ'), Emotional ('EQ') and Managerial ('MQ') competencies are highlighted.
