Toward alliance postsocialism: business strategies in a transitional economy

Article Abstract:

The emergence of alliance postsocialism as a business strategy during China's transition to a market economy was examined. Interviews with managers of six Chinese firms revealed that interorganizational networks and alliances are enthusiastically pursued by businesses as part of an overall growth strategy. The structural imperative of transition to a market economy is motivating Chinese firms to develop a network-based strategy for growth. It was suggested, however, that China may adopt an institutional structure which is neither socialism nor capitalism.
