Uncovering the management process: an ethnographic approach

Article Abstract:

Employee relationships often depend upon interpersonal skills and negotiation rather than the itemised people-management skills as described in management literature. Theoretical discussions about management processes are rarely derived from true-life experiences at lower levels of an organisation. In reality managers have to build relationships with subordinate company personnel and external employees to encourage them to perform well.
