Verizon says NYSE's phone system is up and running

Article Abstract:

Verizon Communications has restored all phone services to the New York Stock Exchange and other Wall Street financial firms after the Sep. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Verizon has worked closely with the stock exchange and financial firms to make sure that telecommunications services are functional and at capacity for the re-opening of the markets on Sep. 17, 2001.

Lucent may shed microelectronics unit

Article Abstract:

Lucent Technologies Inc. is planning to spin off its microelectronics unit due to poor first quarter earnings and a slump in stock prices. Lucent believes that the spinoff will enable them to please investors as well as retain valuable skilled employees.

AT&T breakup plan is opposed by AFL-CIO and employee union

The AFL-CIO and the Communications Workers of America are opposed to the proposed breakup plan by AT&T Corp. The unions are trying to convince investors that the plan is flawed and will hurt investors in the future.
