Article Abstract:

The July 1999 appointment of Carly Fiorina as president and chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard Co. brought to the surface just how few women are in management/high-level positions in the information technology (IT) industry. An Australian Information Industry Association survey found that 24% of IT positions are held by women, but only 17% of senior IT jobs are held by women. However, women's IT associations and networks are growing in Australia.

Compaq's visionary is soon bred out of a job

Article Abstract:

Because of differing visions for the future after Compaq's acquisition of Digital Equipment, former Compaq chief executive Eckhard Pfeiffer was asked to resign. Despite Pfeiffer's help in making Compaq the world's largest PC supplier, Chairman Ben Rosen felt that Compaq needed to sell more software, and that Pfeiffer was not the man for the job.
