Waves from Asia and a poll possibility complicate uncertain times

Article Abstract:

The Australian small business sector is still facing an uncertain future in 1998 due to the country's economic situation and the condition of Asian markets where they export most of their products. Small business operators fear that the Federal Government's planned goods-and-services tax would affect them. They will consider shifting most of their exports from Asia to other markets due to Asia's currency problems.

Prospect of tickets to the Games sparks an Olympic gold rush

Article Abstract:

Demand for tickets for the Summer Olympics to be held in the year 2000 in Sydney, Australia is expected to be huge; 70% of Australians would like to attend the Olympiad, though only 7% of Australians believe they will be able to obtain tickets to the events. In order to give Australians a chance to attend the Olympiad, The Olympic Club has been started. Membership gives people a chance in a raffle of tickets.

South Australia is attracting call center and back-office industry companies without using large monetary incentives popular in other states. Unable to compete financially with other states, SA offers companies savings in operations costs. Its office space is half as expensive as Sydney's, and government communications agreements save operators 20%.
