A corridor is late

Article Abstract:

Ceske drahy (CD) (Prague, Czech Republic), Czech Railways, will not meet the original projects of the modernisation of the second railway corridor. According to a report of the Supreme Control Office (HCO), the Czech Republic, the completion of the construction of the second corridor from Bohumin to Breclav, both in the Czech Republic, will be delayed by two years and the costs on the construction will increase by nearly 19.3 bil Kc compared to the original project. According to the original flow chart, the corridor with a length of 298 km was to be completed at a cost of 24.5 bil Kc in 2003. The calculation of the costs was realised according to the 1994 prices excluding inflation. CD was not able to fulfil the payables resulting from a credit contract arranged with Kreditanstalt fuer Wiederaufbau due to insufficient formation of sources in 1998. The instalments of interest from the credits on the project were covered by the Ministry of Finances of the Czech Republic. CD should redeem the instalments to the state after 2006.
