A healthy cross-Channel transaction

Article Abstract:

Cinven led the management buyout deal of Compagnie Generale des Eaux's healthcare companies, in France and the UK. The healthcare company in France, Compagnie Generale de Sante and the UK business, General Healthcare Group were sold for 1.1 billion pounds sterling. The deal was made up of equity finance of around 300 million pounds sterling, an investment of 60 million pounds sterling from ARN AMRO and 225 million pounds sterling from Cinven. The deal was particularly complex because the two companies were separate entities in different countries.

Bristol-Myers Squibb and Medtronic in multi-billion dollar healthcare deals

The United States healthcare sector saw a number of acquisitions take place in June 2001. The drug company Bristol-Myers Squibb paid $7.8 billion to acquire DuPont's pharmaceutical division and Medical device manufacturer Medtronic acquired MiniMed.
