A lot sizing model with queueing delays: the issue of safety time

Article Abstract:

A queueing model is used to introduce the concept of safety time in a make-to-order production system. The model assumes an individual arrival and departure process and introduces the batch effect through an intermediate batch collection phase to quantify the safety time and determine the associated service level based on the queueing delay. This approach allows the analysis of the service level as a function of the lot size and other parameters, such as the setup time and production rate.

Analysis of an open tandem queueing network with population constraint and constant service times

Article Abstract:

Upper and lower bounds on the mean waiting time in an open tandem queueing network with constant service times and population constraints were obtained. According to simulations, the bounds are tight and easily computed. They were derived by modeling the network as a two-node structure under the assumption that the waiting time is equivalent to the 'total time a customer spends queueing up in the network.'
