A star is born

Article Abstract:

Corporate lawyer Faiz Abdullah made his debut in Kuala Lumpur's financial world on Aug 28, 1995, by buying 49% of listed trading concern Inchcape Timuran, initiating a complex deal. He paid $61 million, or M$5.90 per share, in a deal that left him with the listed shell but not the businesses and gave him a KLSE listing at the low price of M$40 million. That day Inchcape bought 88% of Perdana Finance, and Faiz plans for Inchcape to also buy 51% of the local branch of Nova Scotia Bank, giving him a complete financial supermarket.

Very Quek work

Article Abstract:

The merger between DCB Holdings and Kwong Yik Bank of Malaysia was a complex deal and has produced new challenges for Rashid Hussain Berhad (RHD), DCB Holdings' main shareholder. Quek Leng Chan, a reclusive billionaire, became involved in the deal in May 1996, when Land & General sold off its stake in RHB. Quek was invited into the deal, with Rashid purchasing just under half of the holding in RHB, and Quek purchasing the remainder. This was followed by the merger of DCB Holdings with Kwong Yik Bank.
