AFRICA: CCF INCREASES PRESENCE IN CENTRAL AFRICA

Article Abstract:

The French bank, Credit Commercial de France (CCF), has decided to co-operate with two local financial groups, Commercial Bank of Cameroon, and International bank of France and Gabon, on the whole of the central Africa market, with Gabon and Cameroon being central Africa's principle nations. CCF has also set up an office in the Ivory Coast, where it eventually intends to transform it into a subsidiary, by the end of year 2000.

Market news said JP Morgan Chase planned to sell off Jardine Fleming Bank since Jardine Fleming Bank did not fit in the overall operation and strategy of the merged JP Morgan Chase group. Jardine Fleming Bank made a profit of HK$ 145mn in the year ended March 2000. It had a total asset base of H$K 14.33bn. It engages in structured finance, wealth management, treasury, consumer and commercial banking.
