AUSTRIA: TOWARDS AIRLINE AUSTRIA

Article Abstract:

The supervisory board of Austrian Airlines (AUA) has decided to carry out a restructuring programme proposed by the consultancy company Roland Berger. Essentially this means that the subsidiaries Tyrolean Airways and Lauda Air will be controlled closer by the parent. This should yield synergies of about Sch 1bn per year. The number of staff is to be reduced by 300 from about 8,000 at present. Tyrolean Airways will operate as a regional carrier, while Lauda Air will be a charter airline with some scheduled tourist services. Despite the provisions for the restructuring, AUA group is expected to make profits in year 2000.
