AMERITECH SVAEKKER TELE DANMARKS CHANCER P DET BALTISKE TELEMARKED

Article Abstract:

Analysts in Lithuania claim that Tele Danmark's offer to buy Lithuania Telecom for 3.1 billion DKr (US$ 397 million) will be refused in favour of a syndicate consisting of Swedish Telia and Finnish Sonera. The reason for this is American Ameritech's ownership in the Danish company. The Lithuanian government has doubts about whether Tele Danmark and its new owners have any interest in long-time investments, something that Lithuania desperately needs. Also the fact that Telia has had a very good co-operation with Lithuanian Telecom for over three years is considered to be very important.

SWITZERLAND: TELE DANMARK TO SELL OFF SUNRISE?

Article Abstract:

Tele Danmark, the Danish telecom, will possibly have to sell off its 44% stake in the Swiss company Sunrise, as SBC, which recently acquired Tele Danmark's parent company Ameritech, owns 40% of another Swiss telecom company, diAx. However, the two Swiss companies are not direct competitors, as Sunrise operates a fixed network and diAx is a mobile operator, and this means a sell-off is not obvious, says Henning Vest, director of Tele Danmark's international activities. In any case, Sunrise will have to give up its ambition to become a full-service provider, the paper states.
