AON will acquire Italy-based Nikols

Article Abstract:

Aon Corp. will acquire privately-held Nikols Sedgwick Group, an Italian insurance and reinsurance brokerage firm. Terms of the deal, however, were not disclosed. The agreement reflects increasing consolidation in the insurance brokerage business, which has Chicago, IL-based Aon and New York-based McLennan Cos. as industry leaders. Aon is deemed the second biggest insurance broker in the world. Aon has been observed to be busy in this consolidation as it purchased Alexander & Alexander in 1997 for $1.2 billion. Early in 1998, Marsh & McLennan agreed to buy British brokerage company Sedgwick Group PLC for around $2 billion.
