On the connections among activity-based costing, mathematical programming models for analyzing strategic decisions, and the resource-based view of the firm

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to review the connections between activity-based costing (ABC), mathematical programming (MP) models for analyzing strategic decisions, and the resource-based view of the firm. Results indicate that the three disciplines provide insights to the firm's heterogeneous, homogenous and stranded resources. It was also noted that ABC analyses of the firm's general ledgers pin points resources and associated cost relationships that can be used in making MP models for resource planning.

Optimization methods for electric utility resource planning

Article Abstract:

The use of optimization methods in electric utility resource planning is investigated. The latter, which involves choosing power and energy conservation resources for long-term energy production, has led to the emergence of new optimization models to address environmental problems, greater competition and 'growing uncertainty.' Examples are the price response, market and game-theoretic models.

The infinite dynamic optimization problem revisited: a simple method to determine equilibrium states

Article Abstract:

Research examining methods to determine equilibrium states in the optimization of infinite horizon dynamic is presented. Particular attention is given to resource exploitation problems and ways in which decisions taken at any time can affect the system later on.
