ATN crosses the Atlantic

Article Abstract:

The Eurocontrol test of ground/air datalink (Petal) trials, which started in 1995, highlights the use of the aeronautical telecommunication network (ATN) in order to reduce reliance on voice transmission and free up valuable capacity. Between 2002 and 2004, carriers will run out of aircraft communication addressing and reporting system capacity and this will result in an adverse effect in the US territory, according to Captain Russell Chew, American Airlines managing director, strategic operations and technology.

Beijing rides market downturn

Article Abstract:

The Chinese government was able to raise $400 million from the sale of shares of Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) in Feb 2000. Shares of BCIA were sold in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the sale included Aeroports de Paris (ADP) as a strategic partner. ADP paid $125 million for a 9.9% stake in BCIA and a seat in the management board. The government has a 65% in BCIA, ABN Amro Ventures has 8% while institutional and retail investors acquired the remaining 17%.

Building a future network

Article Abstract:

Poland intends to spend more than $800 million in airport infrastructure in the next 15 years and is developing a corporate structure for its airport network. The country's Airports State Enterprise will be eliminated and replaced by a Civil Aviation Authority and an Air Traffic Agency as part of a new aviation law which is expected to passed this year. Poland's passenger traffic amounts to 5.5 million annually and is facing a 5% annual growth rate.
