AUSTRIA: BAUMAX TO STREAMLINE PRODUCT RANGE

Baumax is to cut back its product range and concentrate on core products around DIY and renovation. At the same time, Austria's biggest DIY chain is to extend the range of service offerings in cooperation with small trades. Baumax chairman Martin Essl expects no further fall in building material prices in the medium term, following a 2% fall in year 2000. In 2001 Baumax expects a 13% increase in turnover to Sch 11.8bn. In 2000 it grew 13.2% to Sch 10.4bn, and profit on ordinary activities was up from Sch 174mn in 1999. One-third of sales is generated in central and eastern Europe. Baumax will open new outlets in this region and expand and modernise the existing ones in Austria. Four new outlets are to be opened in the Czech Republic in 2001. Other key markets include Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Croatia. By 2005, the number of Baumax outlets is to rise from 115 to 175. Turnover is to be doubled.

AUSTRIA: NEW OUTLETS FOR BAUMAX

Baumax of Klosterneuburg is to open 8 new outlets and expand 7 existing ones in year 2001. Especially expansion in central and eastern Europe is to be boosted. Altogether Baumax will have 121 outlets in 2001, 74 of them in Austria.
