AUSTRIA: BOOKSHOPS JOINT VENTURE

Article Abstract:

Two bookshop chains in Austria are to go together in order to exploit synergies. Morawa and Bux, the bookshop subsidiary of Styria Medien AG, have set up Morawa & Styria Buchhandel GmbH on a 50:50 basis. The new company will have 22 bookshops and a market share of 10%. Further participatory holdings and mergers are planned by the company that is not yet represented in Burgenland and Vorarlberg. Styria has spent Sch 18mn on revamping two of its bookshops and is to continue the programme. The bookshops will include additional attractions such as internet points and literature cafes. The merger does not affect the publishing operations of Styria.

AUSTRIA: KLETT EYEING BUNDESVERLAG?

Article Abstract:

Klett, Germany's leading text book publisher, is said to be interested in taking over Osterreichischer Bundesverlag (OBV) in cooperation with Austrian partners. The Austrian state holds a majority stake in the publisher. Klett would like to take over the entire group that includes the publishing companies Brandstatter , Deuticke and Residenz .

AUSTRIA: VERLAG OSTERREICH SOLD

Article Abstract:

Print Media Austria AG (formerly part of government printing office Staatsdruckerei) has sold the specialist publisher Verlag Osterreich to Jusline AG, an on-line provider of juridical information. Jusline paid Sch 75mn for Verlag Osterreich, which is described as a traditional juridical specialist publisher. Reportedly also Suddeutscher Verlag and the legal publishers Manz and Orac were interested in Verlag Osterreich.
