AUSTRIA: VENOUS DISEASES

Article Abstract:

About one in two Austrian women and one in three Austrian men suffers from venous diseases. In the 60-70 age group, the rate is 80%. According to Prof. Dr. Sanja Schuller-Petrovic, head of the out-patient department for venous diseases at Graz University Hospital, 1% of Austrians suffer from leg ulcers. The treatment of this disease accounts for 1.5-2% of the country's health care budget.

AUSTRIA: INJURIES BY FIRE AND SMOKE

Article Abstract:

According to the Sicher Leben institute, annually about 7,500 people in Austria are injured by fire and smoke. About 5 cases are due to burning textiles.

AUSTRIA: DOG BITES

Article Abstract:

The Austrian Interior Ministry estimates that about 17,000 cases of dog bites were registered by the Austrian authorities in the three years to 2000.
