AUSTRIA: CARGO TRAM FOR GRAZ?

Article Abstract:

The SPO party in Graz, Austria wants to set up a cargo tram similar to the one in German Dresden. The SPO fears that the planned production increase (4,000 new staff) in the Eurostar factory on the outskirts of Graz will lead to a dramatic increase in truck traffic. At least component supplies for companies in and around Graz could be moved to the tram, says SPO. Moreover, this would mean a new source of income for the financially struggling public transport operations in Graz. The public transport company of Graz is against such a cargo tram and points out that the tram line would first have to be extended to the Eurostar factory.
