AUSTRIA: COLLAPSE OF STEINER PLASTICS GROUP

Article Abstract:

Four companies of the Austrian Steiner group have filed for insolvency and are seeking composition. The liabilities of the producers of plastic products and garden furniture exceed assets by Sch 1.5bn. The holding company Steiner Industries AG and ILD-Internationale Logistik Dienstleistungs GmbH filed for bankruptcy, while composition is sought for the leisure furniture manufacturer Steiner Freizeitmobel GmbH and for Steco International Plastic Logistic Systems, a producer of transport packaging out of plastic.

Eurostar, the DaimlerChrysler subsidiary, is to close production of the Voyager van at its plant in Graz, Austria, for 15 days in total. The decision is justified with the economic crises in Asia and South America. Especially demand for Voyager vans with the steering wheel on the right-hand side has been affected.
