AUSTRIA: FIRMS PREFER ALTERNATIVE TELCOS

Article Abstract:

According to Arthur D. Little, 76% of Austrian industrial enterprises make telephone calls via alternative networks, after 55% in 1999. 540 companies took part in the survey. Only 24% of companies use only the services of Telekom Austria (TA). 50% are customers of both TA and alternative operators, and 26% only use alternative networks. Customers of alternative operators are happy especially with the price-performance ratio and the transparency of invoicing. As regards quality, companies are more satisfied with TA. Of the companies using alternative telecoms services, 30% are customers of UTA. Other popular operators are Tele.ring (18%), Cybertron (11%) and European Telecom (10%).

AUSTRIA: MORE EXPENSIVE DIRECTORY INQUIRIES

Article Abstract:

On 1 September 2000, Telekom Austria (TA) is to increase the price of directory inquiries to Sch 10.96-14.99 per minute depending on the time of day. At present, TA charges the normal calling rate of Sch 0.31-2.68. Waiting time will be free of charge also from now on but TA will attempt to serve 99% of customers within 10 seconds. The price increase is due to "significant" investments in equipment, new services and training of employees. Until now, Austria was the only EU country where directory inquiries were as cheap as normal phone calls.
