AUSTRIA: FIXED-LINE SERVICE BY MAX.MOBIL

From 8 July 1999 the Austrian mobile phone service provider Max.mobil is to offer its contract clients calls in the fixed-line network. There is no minimum turnover and no additional monthly charge, as the client continues to pay the fixed-line subscription of Telekom Austria. Max.mobil expects to gain 20% of its contract clients for the new Max.plus service by the end of 1999. Max.mobil expects the number of its mobile phone clients to rise from 1.1mn to 1.2mn by the end of 1999. In the first half the company generated a turnover of Sch 4bn, compared with Sch 4.5bn in the whole of 1998. In autumn 1999 Max.mobil is to start offering an online service in cooperation with T-Online, an arm of Max.mobil's majority owner, Deutsche Telekom. Meanwhile, another Austrian mobile phone service provider, One (Connect Austria) is to offer its fixed-line services to non-subscribers and users of pre-paid cards from 5 July 1999. One is already serving 20,000 clients with fixed-line calls.

AUSTRIA: MOBILE PHONE SALES VIA INTERNET

Article Abstract:

In autumn 1999 at the latest, Max.mobil is to start selling via the internet. Its competitor Mobilkom Austria has just launched Easy Shopping in the internet. The first 1,000 clients visiting the home page can take part in a prize draw. One was the first mobile phone service provider in Austria to launch internet selling. One-Webshop was opened in February 1999. According to Die Presse, the three companies are offering pre-paid mobile phone services via the internet.
