AUSTRIA/GERMANY: HIGH-SPEED LINK VIENNA-MUNICH

Article Abstract:

The Austrian and German railway companies OBB and Deutsche Bahn have signed a memorandum to develop railway infrastructure between Austria and Bavaria in the period to 2012. The line between Nuremberg and Vienna is to be improved to allow train speeds of 200 kph. Then journey time between Munich and Vienna will fall to 3 hours and 10 minutes.

OBB is spending Sch 470mn on the modernisation of rail systems in Floridsdorf, Vienna. Also a new railway station will be built in Jedlersdorf. The project is to be completed by the end of 2003.
